Goals
Since the start of the hospital's operation, the goal of the Nursing Directorate has been to provide inpatients with high-quality care. In order for this goal to be achieved, the Nursing Directorate's organization and operation was based on the contemporary regulations of the Nursing Science and on the way that the health care institutions of Western Europe operate. Every nursing division was adequately staffed with nursing staff (in the highest numbers and with the highest degree of qualification possible). Furthermore, taking into consideration the special needs of each inpatient, we tried to create the optimum environment for their hospitalization.
When the hospital became part of the National Health System, the Nursing Directorate ensured that all nursing divisions would be perfectly prepared for the treatment and the coverage of:
- Emergencies,
- Group Accidents and
- Potential Mass Disasters.
Our main concern is the patient's holistic care. When it comes to holistic care, we start from simple routine activities, like those of hygiene, nutrition, hospitalization, assurance of the appropriate environment and reach the use of state-of-the-art technological equipment, whether this is used for the patient's life support, or for adding substances to the human body. The main feature of our care throughout hospitalization, is the constant psychological support and communication with the patient. In order to ensure the provision of proper care and the smooth operation of nursing divisions, we ensured common planning and guidance of the entire nursing staff. We provide treatment without omissions or faults, because "Health" is the most valuable possession and every person has a right to it.
We believe that the most important investment in health services is the staff's training. Therefore, along with the Training Office, the 82 clinical instructors, the heads of every division and the nurses and midwives that take part in this procedure, we worked together with the University of Macedonia in order to research the needs of the staff in training. We plan and implement targeted training through various events like: Seminars, One Day Conferences, Clinical Workshops-Courses, Department and Inter-sectoral Courses. These events are organized within the framework of continuous training of our staff and can also be attended by medical officers who do not work at the Papageorgiou Hospital and come from other agencies.
The continuous improvement of the Nursing Service is a constant race and this is the reason why we try to identify and correct the errors on a daily basis and why also apply methods aiming at the upgrade of the care provided.
