Patients' rights

All rights of hospital patients are set forth in article 47 of the Law 2071/1992.

Patients have the right to:

  • receive the appropriate services by the Hospital with respect to their condition (right to health services).
  • be treated with the due respect to their dignity as human beings (right to be respected for their dignity as human beings)
  • give their consent or to refuse diagnostic actions or treatments. In case of partial or total mental disability, the above mentioned right should be exercised by the person who is duly authorized to act on their behalf (right to consent to diagnostic actions or treatments).
  • be informed about their condition and make decisions or take part in the decision making process that may affect the rest of their lives (right to be informed and make decisions).
  • be fully informed in advance about the dangers that may arise due to the use of unconventional or experimental diagnostic actions and treatments. Such diagnostic actions and treatments can only be carried out with the consent of the patient, which may be revoked at all times. The patient should be completely free to accept or deny at all times their participation in actions carried out for research or training purposes (right to be informed about dangers and participation in research and training).
  • have their personal privacy protected. The confidentiality of information, of the content of documents that concern the patient and of the record that holds all medical notes and findings, should be guaranteed (right to privacy).
  • to be treated with respect for their religious and ideological beliefs (right to be respected for religious and ideological believes).
  • to present or lodge complaints and objections and to be fully informed about the actions taken and the outcomes of these actions (right to complain and object).

Patients' and visitors' obligations

Patients and visitors should comply with the operating rules of the Hospital and collaborate with the staff. More specifically:

  • If patients are insured with a certain Insurance Fund, they should submit all supporting documents required for their hospitalization at the Patient Administration Office.
  • If patients are uninsured, then they have to pay the cost of their hospitalization at the Patient Administration Office (with a small advance payment at admission and final settlement of the cost at discharge).
  • If patients are uninsured and impoverished, they should promptly notify the social worker of the Hospital.
  • Patients should provide the medical staff with all required information on their medical history and clearly express their needs and wishes.
  • Patients and visitors should respect the medical, nursing and other staff as well as the rest of the patients.
  • Patients and their visitors should be quiet during quiet-hours and should not use mobile phones, watch television and listen to radio (without headsets).
  • Visitors of patients should keep vising hours and should not bring food for patients in the areas of the hospital.
  • Attendants are not allowed to stay at the treatment areas of the hospital outside visiting hours without a special written permit.
  • Both patients and their visitors should try to keep all areas clean and are requested to not keep food or flowers in the hospitalization areas.

SMOKING IN ALL AREAS OF THE HOSPITAL IS PROHIBITED
