This is the result of the hard work of all managements and employees at the Hospital, but mainly it is the fulfillment of the vision of the national contributors, brothers Nikos and Leonidas Papageorgiou, based on which the hospital was designed, built, equipped, staffed and now operates.

The commencement of its operation in August 1999, the establishment of the Teaching Clinics in 2004, has completed in the best possible way the staffing of the Hospital which is currently engaged in a standing cooperation with the School of Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

After more than ten years of operation and in accordance with the evaluation of an international committee that was conducted on behalf of AUTh, the Papageorgiou Hospital is considered to be one of the best hospitals in Europe both with regard to the completeness and with regard to the quality of services provided to patients.

What differentiates this from other hospitals, is that employees offer their services to all patients with a smiling face, politeness and care; this is the cornerstone of the philosophy behind its operation, a philosophy that was developed by the first president and currently honorary president of the Hospital, one of the donor brothers Nikos Papageorgiou.

This anthropocentric philosophy governs the behavior of all employees. The vision for Healthcare is now extended to include preventive medicine, timely and accurate diagnosis, pioneering services and operations for the best service of people, the introduction of innovative medical practices, the improvement of the medical equipment, as with the latest addition of a state-of-the-art MRI, which ranks the Hospital in the top twenty Hospitals at a global scale. 

Today at the Papageorgiou Hospital there are clinics and departments that cover the whole range of Higher Level Hospital care, while the Hospital carries out an important educational task, by offering specialization programs, continuous education, research and training of doctors and nurses and by carrying out special educational programs.

• The employees of the Hospital are approximately 1900 and there are 800 beds.
• Patients who visit the Outpatients Department on a daily basis exceed 1000.
• The average number of incidents that are being handled at the Emergency Department exceed 800 and if you add the number of medicine students, attendants and visitors, it becomes evident that more than 7000 people move around inside the areas of the Hospital on a daily basis.
• There were days when the total number of surgical operations amounted to 105.
